Australian Plein-Air Artists Group

Plein-Air (in the open air) is a term coined by the French impressionists over 100 years ago to describe painting outdoors, capturing natural light and atmosphere in the landscape, and translating those illusive qualities with paint to canvas.

The Australian Plein-Air Artists Group aims to continue the plein-air painting tradition in Australia while fostering learning through mentoring, workshops, tutorials, exhibitions and judging. We promote and support the preservation and conservation of our natural heritage through landscape painting within a support network providing companionship for artists who strive for painting excellence.
